Situated amongst the rolling hills of the Khomas Hochland, Sun Karros Lifestyle Safaris situated in the Daan Viljoen Game Reserve is sanctuary to a relatively large population of game species typical of Namibia's highlands. Because of its proximity to Windhoek and its tranquil setting, it is a popular overnight stop for visitors who wish to avoid the hustle and bustle of the capital. Although small, the Sun Karros Lifestyle Safaris supports a healthy population of Namibian game and is also a good spot for bird-watching. One of the main features is the reservoir around which the chalets and camping sites are placed; as this is a permanent source of water, it attracts bountiful birdlife as well as a good selection of wildlife.
Several game species can be seen including kudu, red hartebeest, springbok, klipspringer, steenbok, eland and Oryx antelopes, baboons (burglar bars were installed in the kiosk in the vicinity of the restaurant to keep them out), blue wildebeests and giraffes. Bird species: helmeted guinea fowl, red billed francolin, yellow billed hornbill, rock runner to name a few as there are more than 200 bird species in the park. Vegetation type of the park is highland savanna. The most common trees are: mountain thorn, camel thorn, buffalo thorn, red bushwillow and candle thorn.
