SA COVID Vaccine Process – Practical Implications for Gemhealth Members

Herewith an overview of the Covid-19 vaccination registration procedure for Gemhealth members in South Africa:

  • You have to be registered on the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS), and you can register based on the eligibility criteria (i.e. over 60). For further instructions and for access to the EVDS portal, please follow the link: https://www.gov.za/covid-19/vaccine/evds
  • You can only register with a South African ID/Passport
  • When registering, you must indicate whether you are a member of a South African medical aid scheme (as registered with CMS, SA), whether you have another medical aid or insurance, or whether you have no medical aid. Non-South African insurance or international medicals aids are not listed on the system, and as Gemhealth is a Namibian medical aid scheme, it will not be on the system.
  • Therefore, we kindly ask that you select the option Nonewhen registering for your vaccination. This selection will allow for the vaccination to be be funded by the South African Government to the private site (Pharmacy or clinic).
  • A few rules apply:
    • No patient may pay for any vaccine received – it will be fully funded by either an SA medical aid, or by the SA Government
    • No co-payment may apply
    • Only valid registered patients may receive their vaccination
